Make any template your own

October 14, 2026

Copy a KinSwitch template into My Templates, put it in your own words, and add fill-in spots so your family gets the plan in your voice.

Write down what only you know. If you stop checking in, KinSwitch sends it to the person who needs it.

A family emergency plan template gets you past the blank page. It still sounds like us until you copy it and put it in your own words.

Say you started with the accounts, insurance, and bills template. The headings were right. Who to call, where the policies are, which bills autopay, the key logins. The sentences just were not yours.

You do not have to start over. Save what you already wrote as your own template, or copy ours and reword it. Either way, the person who receives it hears your voice.

What can I turn into a template?

Open any note, entry, or notebook and tap Save as Template.

Your household accounts list, your insurance details, or a first-week plan for your family can be written once and used again.

How do I make a catalog template mine?

Every template in the catalog has Copy to My Templates. For the full walkthrough, see how templates work.

  1. Open your Library.
  2. Select + New, then From Template.
  3. Copy the template to My Templates.
  4. Reword the copy until it sounds like you.

Your copy is editable. The catalog original stays as it was.

How do I add my own fill-in spots?

Before you save a note as a template, write the blank in double braces.

{{Insurance agent}} becomes a question the next time you apply that template.

{{Date}}, {{Time}}, and {{Datetime}} are different. They do not ask you to type anything. They stamp the moment you apply the template, in your timezone.

A title like Bills Check {{Date}} names each update for you, so your family can see when you last wrote it down.

How do I find the templates I made?

The picker searches every template. Filter by Notes, Notebooks, or Mine.

From the picker you can rename or delete your own templates. That does not delete the catalog original.

Where do I start my family emergency plan?

Library, + New, From Template.

After you apply a template, it is a normal note or notebook you can edit. Attach it to a switch and choose who gets it.

Your templates are encrypted, like the rest of your data.
