Everplans Review: Pricing, Features and How It Compares
Everplans review for whoever runs the household: what Free and $99.99 Premium include, why deputies need Premium, how the after death unlock works, and where KinSwitch fits.

Everplans is an online planner for your important documents and household details, with a way to share them with people you trust. This review reads it from one seat: the person who runs the household. You know who services the mortgage and which card the water bill comes off. If you were gone tomorrow, would your partner get those answers from Everplans, and who would have to make that happen?

What does Everplans do?
Everplans helps you collect the paperwork side of your life in one place. You add items such as IDs, financial accounts, estate documents and insurance policies, and the app suggests what else to gather. Then you invite people Everplans calls deputies.
The sharing controls are the best part. According to Everplans' help center, you set each item, for each deputy, to one of three choices:
- Share now, so they can see it today
- Share after death, so it stays locked until you are gone
- Do not share, so it stays hidden
That suits a couple where one partner wants the insurance details visible now and a personal letter kept back for later.

What does Everplans cost?
As of October 21, 2026, Everplans' pricing page lists two plans for individuals:
- Everplans Free: up to 3 items, guided suggestions, the content library and the iOS app
- Everplans Premium, $99.99 a year: unlimited items, premium content and checklists, and secure sharing
One detail matters more than the price. Everplans' help center says adding deputies is a Premium feature. On the free plan you can organize, but nobody else can see it. If the point is a handoff, budget for Premium.
The pricing page does not list a monthly option or a refund policy, so ask Everplans before you buy if either matters to you.
How does the Everplans handoff work after a death?
Items marked share after death stay locked until someone reports your death. Per Everplans' help center, it goes like this:
- A deputy you gave unlock permission logs in to the Everplans web app and reports your passing. The mobile app cannot do this step.
- Everplans emails you and waits for the wait time you chose, anywhere from 3 hours to 30 days, so you can block it if the report is wrong.
- If you do not respond, your after death items unlock and deputies with after death access get an email.
It is a sensible design. A false report gets caught, and the wait time is yours to set.
Where the Everplans handoff can stall
Everything after step 1 runs on its own. Step 1 does not. The handoff waits for a person who has to:
- Know they hold unlock permission
- Remember that Everplans exists, in a hard week
- Sign in on a computer, since the report only works on the web
Everplans sees this too. Its help center recommends adding backup unlockers. Two more details are worth knowing. If you set up a jointly managed household plan through a financial advisor, after death items stay locked until both spouses are reported deceased. And a lapsed Premium plan is worth asking about, since deputies are a Premium feature.
None of this makes Everplans a bad choice. It means the plan works best when your unlocker has been told, in person, what to do.
How KinSwitch handles the same moment
KinSwitch starts from the other end. Write down what only you know. If you stop checking in, KinSwitch sends it to the person who needs it. Nobody has to report anything. Your silence is the trigger. Before anything is sent, KinSwitch warns you more than once, and accidental release is rare. The full timeline is in our post on forgetting to check in.
The people you name do not need an account. They get an email with a link to what you left them. Everything you store is encrypted, and your communication log shows every message we sent and whether it arrived. One honest limit: revoking a link later cannot pull back a file someone already downloaded.
You do not have to pick one. Some households keep the full paper trail in Everplans and put a short note on a KinSwitch switch that says where the Everplan is, who the unlocker is and what to do first. That way the note arrives even if nobody remembers to report.
If you are comparing more tools, our GoodTrust review lists the security questions worth asking any of them, and the Death Binder checklist covers what to collect.
Everplans FAQ
Is Everplans worth it?
If you want guided help collecting documents and fine control over who sees each one, yes. Most households will need Premium at $99.99 a year, because the free plan holds 3 items and does not include deputies. If your main worry is getting the details to someone without anyone starting the process, look at a check-in tool alongside it.
Is there a free version of Everplans?
Yes. Everplans Free stores up to 3 items and includes guided suggestions, the content library and the iOS app. Adding deputies needs Premium.
What happens to my Everplan when I die?
A deputy with unlock permission reports your death on the Everplans website. Everplans emails you and waits for the time you set, from 3 hours to 30 days. If you do not block it, your after death items unlock and your deputies are notified by email.
Can my deputies see my Everplan while I am alive?
Only the items you set to share now. Items set to share after death stay locked until the unlock process finishes, and items set to do not share stay hidden.
Is KinSwitch an Everplans alternative?
For the handoff, yes. Everplans waits for a deputy to report your death. KinSwitch sends what you left when you stop checking in, after warning you first. Many people use a planner to get organized and KinSwitch to make sure the essentials arrive.
